What's Up with Crowded Parks These Days?

The secret is out. National Parks and Monuments scattered around the United States and its territories are award winning and relatively inexpensive or free to visit. The experiences that you can find within these sites are world-class and as more folks want to unplug and get away from it all, it's hard to find a better location.

But what happens when you and the rest of the millions of Americans and foreign visitors have the same idea and want to get away with you?

According to the National Parks Conservation Association, there were a record 300-million visitors to National Parks in 2015.

Here's the 2015 visitorship to the Top Ten most visited parks (courtesy the National Parks Conservation Association):

So, how can you maximize your time, minimize your frustration and feel like you're the only person in the park?

  • Try to go off peak days and seasons.
  • Go early in the day or you may not find a parking spot.
  • Use shuttles or transit where available.
  • Try to stay in the park so you're the first one in and last one out.
  • Pick a lesser known section of the park. You'll be surprised by how much less populated it may be.
