Favorite National Park Site Countdown #2: Glacier National Park

"Dude, go take a selfie with that mountain goat over there."

Not what you want to hear from a group of German tourists after you finish one of the most serene and memorable hikes if your life. But alas, my husband was intrigued and tried it out. Thankfully he didn't get head butted off a cliff. FYI, the picture didn't really turn out which is why it's not included here.

Glacier had my heart from the moment I went on the park website. Just the Going to the Sun Road - just the road! - that leads through the park is steeped in history. There isn't a bad vantage point from this road. The hiking opportunities are seemingly endless. Beautiful meadows, towering mountain peaks, sparkling lakes and wildlife at nearly every turn.

Next time we head back, we will plan more time and will venture into the Canada side of the park.

Weather can change quickly no matter what time of year you visit. Be prepared for rain, cold temperatures, snow at higher elevations (it is called Glacier for a reason) and even forest fires. Plan ahead and check the park website often so you don't get caught off guard by closures.
